They also allow for airflow around the plant, giving seedlings and young plants time to establish their root systems and trunks. The guard is designed to shield newly planted seedlings and plants from harsh environmental conditions, such as intense sun, wind, and heavy rain and also protects them from native wildlife (that may eat the plants) and increases their visibility to prevent accidental human impact from hedge trimmers, lawnmowers, vehicles, and being trodden on.
As the eco guard slowly decomposes over time, the organic matter breaks down and acts as compost, providing nutrients that are released back into the soil. With a lifespan of approximately 12 months, the guards provide enough time for seedlings and young plants to establish their root systems and grow.
